Stop Worrying! Here's How
Did you ever get to the end of an experience and think to yourself, “Gosh, I’m SO glad I worried so much about that!”
Not likely. So, why do we worry so much? If it never really helps, and sucks so much of our energy, how come worry consumes us?
It’s a habit of our ego (the conscious personality). The mind likes to dwell on the past and anticipate the future, while our soul prefers to remain in the present moment. When we are in the present moment, things like worry, regret, and anxiety can not exist. In the present moment, we realize we have everything we need. There is nothing to regret, and certainly nothing to worry about!
If you’d like to get out of the habit of worrying and enjoy your life as it is NOW, try the following exercise!
Paving the Future with Infinite Possibility:
Create a quiet space and light a candle or clear the space with incense or sage. Find a comfortable seated position and close your eyes. Imagine your future as a vast landscape, spanning as far as your mind’s eye sees. Now, in a quick shock of a moment, see a tremor move through this landscape and like sands in an hourglass, watch the whole thing fall away to reveal a blank field of white light. This is your future: filled only with infinite possibility. Spend some time in quiet contemplation on the infinite possibility before closing this ritual with three deep breaths and snuffing the candle.
When you look into your wide-open-future from the present moment, you see that there is no anxiety, worry, or anticipation because you now know the truth: that your future will unfold exactly as it is meant to, as long as you remain attentive to your present.
