Episode 11 - What is Vinyasa yoga (really)?
Listen Now
In this podcast, I want to talk to you about the term “vinyasa” and how it’s not just a flowing series of yoga postures. I’ll bust through the misconception that vinyasa just means flow and talk about its application to our life and practice as yoga teachers.
Modern psychology will also aid in this discussion because of its concept of the flow state; something that yogis have known about for a long time and that modern psychologists are only beginning to understand. I want to talk to you about how to enter the most blissful and productive state of mind, and how you can facilitate your students’ entry into that state of mind as well, and that state of mind is vinyasa.
Your most joyful and productive state of mind is right here, right now.
We’ll talk about:
- what Patanjali really meant by vinyasa in the Yoga Sutra
- what role our psyche plays in yoga
- how krama plays a part
- what Atha yoganushasanam is
- the importance of staying present
I’ll talk about why any kind of physical yoga out there is actually a type of vinyasa krama if we, as the leaders of these classes, help the students to focus on here and now, which is the only time in which they’ll ever feel the state of yoga.
