Dave Porter: Finding Home, Building a Brand, and What to Do if You've Plateaued in Your Practice
If you are a member of the HEY (Higher Education in Yoga) group, the Alanna K. platform that includes the monthly live curriculum of daily classes, 12 guaranteed Yoga Alliance continuing education credits, discussions, and live workshops, then you have likely seen one of the newest additions–live asana classes taught by Dave Porter. I had an opportunity to sit down and chat with Dave and am happy to introduce him to you all, our community.
One of the things that really resonated with me from our conversation was his response to my the first question, “what does home mean to you?” A part of my personal practice and lines in the logo of my own yoga business is “Welcome Home.”
As a teacher, I’m passionate about everyone being able to find home within themselves. So many of us have had experiences that have taken away some of our agency. So many of us have had periods where we haven’t felt connected to our bodies or to our spirits.
I believe that the practice of yoga can and should allow us all to feel at home within ourselves. So that no matter what happens to us, we’re always able to find solace and comfort in our hearts. While Dave’s response wasn’t exactly the same as mine, there was certainly alignment.
We talked about home, how his world travels and yoga journey go hand in hand, and how he helped to start one of the premier yoga studios that now have locations across the country. Dave also offers sage advice to new and experienced yoga students alike.
Take a moment to meet Dave and if you’re not already a member of HEY, come home to us and join here, and check out the amazing content available every month.
