3 Mystical Practices to Welcome in the New Year
I don’t know about you, but I can hardly believe that we’re already a few days into the New Year. Are you ready to hit the ground running in 2022? I certainly am, and I have a feeling this year is set to be amazing. There are lots to be grateful for.
The team at AlannaK.com is feeling this energy, too. And while we spend a lot of our time helping our students step into their role as spiritual leaders through the practices of yoga, tarot, astrology, chakra therapeutics and more, we use these powerful practices ourselves, too.
In the interest of beginning 2022 on a spiritual note, Meli De Los Santos, our fabulous Lead Mystic Mentor, shared some of her favorite ways to start the New Year off right.
3 Mystical Practices to Welcome in the New Year
One of the keys to making the most of the year ahead is to reflect on the previous year. What did you learn about yourself in 2021? What lessons do you want to take with you? What things would you like to leave behind?
Thankfully, you don’t need a crystal ball to answer these questions (although if you have one, sure, feel free to use it!). You can simply use the mystical practices already at your disposal. Below, Meli shares her top tips on how to use tarot, astrology and the chakras to set yourself up for success in 2022.
1. Pull Tarot Cards to Reflect Back and Look Ahead
As you probably know, I am a big fan of tarot (shocking, right?). I pull cards pretty much every morning to help set the tone for my day. In this practice, however, Meli suggests doing a tarot reading for 2021 (to reflect back) and 2022 (to look ahead).
The process is pretty simple. Start by pulling two or three cards for each month in 2021. As you interpret the cards, see how the messages from the deck align with what was going on for you each month last year. Notice how the cards may not only paint a picture of what you experienced, but also give insight into the energies you’d like to bring with you (or leave exactly where they are…in the past).
After you’ve gone through 2021, repeat the process for 2022. This time, focus on what might be coming up ahead and what you’ll need to know in order to thrive each month. You may even note some interesting themes that appear throughout the year. Remember that we have free will and our energy is always changing. Nothing is set in stone. This is simply an opportunity to look forward and see what you might be able to expect throughout the year.
2. Conduct a Transit Astrology Reading
Another one of my favorite tools is astrology, and if you feel yourself called to study the stars in your everyday life, this is the practice for you. Similar to the tarot pulls detailed above, astrology can be used to reflect back and look ahead. This is where Meli suggests that a transit astrology reading–comparing planetary movements to your natal chart–can be particularly helpful.
This practice is great for uncovering patterns. When you look at what happened astrologically in 2021, you begin to notice how certain planets or houses can influence your reality. Go through each month and assess where you felt challenged, content, energized, etc.
Armed with this knowledge, complete the same exercise for each month in 2022. Note the planetary transits that are likely to feel calming for you versus the ones that are more likely to create dissonance. Knowing what’s ahead can help you create a plan to maximize your energy during times of flow and protect your peace during times of upheaval.
3. Tune Up Your Chakras
Who doesn’t love the chakras? In all my years of teaching and creating programs, students have always been most curious about these energy wheels or centers and their impacts. If you’re not super familiar with the chakra system, check out my YouTube playlist on the topic. It’s a great place to start before diving into this practice.
The New Year is a good time to check-in and tune up your chakras. Meli suggests meditating on each one to get a sense of what is going on for you right now and where more work may need to be done in order to create balance.
Be sure to spend enough time with each chakra. Some will likely be easier to access than others. It’s always OK to come back to the ones that aren’t readily available. The more you practice, the more you’ll get a feel for what you need.
