How to Market Yourself as a Yoga Teacher
When you registered for your yoga teacher training, did you know that you’d also be signing up to become a small business owner? That’s right. As much as yoga teachers are drawn to this career because they love yoga and want to help people, the honest truth is that yoga professionals must know how to market themselves in order to have a greater impact and actually achieve that goal.
If talking about yoga and marketing in the same sentence makes you uncomfortable, know that you’re not alone. Many yoga teachers shy away from promoting their services. It can feel un-yogic somehow.
And while I empathize, the fact of the matter is that if you really want to make a difference as a yoga teacher, you need to put yourself out there. After all, you have an opportunity to share your yoga gifts with more people and make a positive impact on your students, community and the world at large.
How do I get comfortable with the idea of marketing myself as a yoga teacher?
The first step to being able to market yourself as a yoga teacher is to find a way to overcome your doubts, fears and reservations. I find it helpful to reframe the idea of “marketing” as “sharing.” Instead of marking yourself as a yoga teacher, you’re sharing your yoga knowledge and expertise with potential students. Viewed this way, you’re focusing on what really matters: helping more people experience the benefits of yoga.
OK, that feels better. Now, how do I actually market myself as a yoga teacher?
The actual marketing part is rather simple. You need to find a way to share your yoga offerings with potential students. Before that, however, you need to know what your offer is. Are you teaching classes? Workshops? Continuing education classes? Once you have an offer, it’s time to start sharing it with people.
There are many ways to do this, but I find that social media is a great way to bring your message to a wider audience. Nowadays, nearly everyone is on social media in one form or another. The more you share valuable content about your yoga offerings, the more your audience can get to know you. The content you create for social media also builds trust with your potential students, so they know exactly what they’re going to get when they practice with you.
